Player Roles in Search For The Needle

Search For The Needle is not a roster game. There are no gacha units. “Players” on this wiki means roles in the pile. Up to 20 people share a Roblox server. If everyone plays the same way, you get a traffic jam on the photogenic face of the hay and empty volume everywhere else. This hub assigns jobs. The detailed splits live on playstyles.
Roles only work after the basics. If you cannot sell hay, go to getting started. If you cannot open the shop, go to controls. Twenty-player geometry — named faces, peak, ground ring — lives on group hunt.
The three jobs
Hunter
Hunters run search blocks. They orbit a cleared pocket, watch for a silver line, and call it when they see metal. They still collect, but they stop moving every few seconds to scan. Hunters need camera discipline from how to find the needle more than they need a maxed shop.
Farmer
Farmers exist to fund hunters — including themselves. They live on pickup ranks from the upgrade path, fill, sell, repeat. In a group, farmers strip volume so hunters can see. A farmer who never searches still helps if the pile actually shrinks.
Runner
Runners take the walk tax. They ferry to the vendor, grab daily rewards if a friend forgot, and keep chat from standing in the working face. Runners buy movement earlier than the tier list would tell a solo. One runner per party is enough.
Solo is a valid role
Most sessions are solo. Solo players rotate farmer and hunter every ten to fifteen minutes. That rotation is a playstyle, not a failure to find friends. The odds do not require 19 teammates. They require throughput.
Crowd problems
20-player servers sound like a free labor pool. They also:
- Block click boxes.
- Hide the needle behind avatars.
- Create fake “I found it” chat.
- Encourage everyone to copy the same YouTube angle.
If the server is noisy, hop. A quiet 4-player server with roles beats a full server with none. The experience does not need a full lobby to spawn the needle.
